Is Your Sewage Sludge Suitable for Carbonization?

Municipal Sewage Sludge
Source: From municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs)

River and Dredged Sludge
Source: From river, lake, or waterway dredging operations

Organic-Rich Non-Toxic Sludge
We do not process: Leather sludge, printing & dyeing sludge, and various chemical/industrial process sludges
Sewage Sludge Carbonization Process
An integrated process — from sludge receiving, filter pressing and drying to carbonization — that converts municipal sewage sludge into sludge-derived carbon, while recycling filtrate and waste heat within a closed-loop system

Integrated Sludge Carbonization Solution
Our integrated sludge carbonization solution combines dewatering, drying, carbonization, exhaust gas treatment and automated control in one complete line. The system is customized to sludge properties and processing capacity, with optional biomass mixing for low-organic feedstocks.

3 Core Benifits Of Sludge Carbonization Solution
Waste Reduction & Detoxification
Sludge carbonization significantly reduces sludge volume and weight while eliminating pathogens and harmful organics through high-temperature pyrolysis, solving disposal and compliance challenges for customers.

Resource Recovery & Cost Savings
The process yields biochar for reuse in soil amendment, construction materials, or activated carbon production, while combustible gas generated is reused for heating — turning disposal costs into revenue streams.
Environmental Compliance & Green Positioning
Treated exhaust gases meet emission standards, helping customers stay compliant while supporting circular economy and carbon-neutrality goals — strengthening their ESG profile and green credentials.

Market Value of Sewage Sludge Biochar
Carbonized sludge can be evaluated for energy recovery, construction materials, adsorbent preparation and other resource recovery routes. The final application depends on product testing, environmental requirements and local regulations.

Product Testing Determines Market Access
Biochar quality (calorific value, heavy metals, leaching toxicity) determines which revenue route is available — carbon credit certification requires the strictest standards, while fuel/construction use has more flexible thresholds. Testing is the first step to unlocking the highest-value application.
Carbon Credit Calculation (CORC)
1 ton of biochar can sequester approx. 2.2 to 3 tons of CO₂. Through BCR (Biochar Carbon Removal) certification, these can be sold as CORCs to tech giants or heavy emitters.
Estimated Economic Value
1 * CORC ≈ $170 (VCC market price)
1 Ton Biochar Revenue ≈ 2.2 * $170 = $374 ROI from Carbon removal only.

Beston EPC Turnkey Service
BESTON work in with Puro.earth and Crystalchain provides a full-lifecycle service framework for biochar carbon removal projects — covering early-stage project planning, LCA assessment, delivery & construction, biochar production, dMRV monitoring, and carbon credit certification.
Project Planning
Beston works in strategic partnership with CrystalChain to enhance our
EPC project delivery capabilities.
- Defining the project as carbon removal solution design
- Feedstock eligibility and sustainability assessment
- Registry selection, e.g. Puroearth, Isometric etc.
- Life Cycle Assessment, LCA, prepared for project registration
Project Delivery & Construction Services
Once financing is secured, Beston delivers a comprehensive Delivery
& Construction Services.
- Environmental industrial park planning and process layout
- Manufacturing, delivery, installation, and commissioning of biochar equipment
- Office buildings, dormitories, and supporting infrastructure
Production & dMRV Monitoring
- dMRV system: full traceability of feedstock, production, biochar use,
logistics, and emissions. - Automated carbon removal calculation based on LCA models.
- Standardized reports for registry verification and credit issuance.
Through dMRV, each ton of permanently removed CO₂ is traceable, verifiable, and creditable.
Carbon Credit Certification
Based on dMRV and LCA outputs, results are submitted to registries
such as Puroearth:
- Reviewed by the registry and third-party auditors
- High-quality carbon removal credits are issued
- Credits can be sold, held, or used for corporate climate strategies
